To ensure the best possible experience during your massage therapy session in Pocatello, we recommend the following preparation tips:
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call us before your appointment. Following these tips helps Chloe and our team provide a safe, comfortable, and effective massage experience.
Relaxation is key to getting the most benefit from your massage therapy session in Pocatello. While easier said than done, staying relaxed allows the therapist to effectively knead muscles without resistance. Avoid flexing, lifting, or predicting the therapist’s movements — for example, when your neck is being worked on, keep your head relaxed and let the therapist do the work. Trust your therapist’s strength and knowledge to guide the session.
Talking or staying quiet?
This is entirely up to you. Therapists take cues from the client: you can engage in conversation or focus on listening to your body. If a therapist is ever too chatty, you can politely ask for quiet — we will not be offended!
Following these tips ensures a calm, effective, and restorative massage experience with any of our skilled therapists at Deep Kneads Massage.
Yes! At Deep Kneads Massage, clients are fully draped for their safety and comfort throughout the entire massage session. Only the area being worked on is exposed, and a sheet or drape is always used to protect both the client and the therapist.
Proper draping ensures a professional, safe, and comfortable massage experience. For more details, please see our Policies page.

Reflexology is the art and science of stimulating the body’s natural healing processes by targeting specific reflex points on the body. These points correspond to different organs and systems, meaning that pressure applied to certain areas of the hands or feet can influence overall health and wellness.
At Deep Kneads Massage, our reflexology sessions focus on the feet, helping to promote relaxation, improved circulation, and overall balance throughout the body.
Experience professional foot reflexology in Pocatello and discover how reflexology can support your body’s natural healing and wellness.
At Deep Kneads Massage, all clients are required to complete a detailed health intake form, a general liability form, and an acknowledgement of our policies (see our Policies page for details).
The health intake form is essential because certain medical conditions, ailments, or medications can be contraindications for massage therapy. New clients must complete these forms prior to their first appointment, and existing clients are required to update them once per year to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Providing accurate information allows our team to deliver safe, personalized massage therapy in Pocatello while following best practices for client care and safety.
No need to worry about shaving your legs before a massage therapy session in Pocatello. For the therapist’s hands, several days of hair growth or a fresh shave is ideal. This ensures the massage feels smooth and comfortable for both the client and therapist.
Avoiding rough or coarse hair helps maintain a relaxing and professional massage experience without discomfort. Focus on your comfort and let our therapists handle the rest!

An infrared sauna is a private wooden cabin that uses infrared light waves to generate heat directly
within your body, rather than simply heating the air around you like a traditional steam sauna does.
Think of it like the warmth you feel from sunlight on your skin on a cool day — that's infrared heat.
Because the heat works from the inside out, your body responds deeply at a lower, more comfortable
air temperature, making the experience accessible even for people who find traditional steam saunas
too intense.
A traditional sauna heats the air around you to very high temperatures — often 180–200°F — and you
breathe that hot air. An infrared sauna typically operates between 110–150°F, which feels significantly
more tolerable, especially for first-timers. Despite the lower air temperature, infrared heat penetrates
deeper into muscle tissue, meaning your body works harder and sweats more efficiently at a more
comfortable temperature. Many people who cannot tolerate traditional saunas find infrared sessions far more enjoyable.
Deep Kneads is home to the only private-use, clinic-grade infrared sauna in Pocatello. Our unit is a
Health Mate Enrich 3, built by Health Mate, a manufacturer with over 40 years of infrared sauna
innovation. Unlike shared or public sauna facilities, your session at Deep Kneads is completely private — the room is reserved exclusively for you for the duration of your booking.
Full-spectrum infrared means the sauna delivers near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths simultaneously. Each wavelength penetrates the body at a different depth and supports different wellness goals. Near infrared is associated with surface-level skin and cellular wellness. Mid infrared reaches deeper into soft tissue and supports circulation. Far infrared penetrates deepest into muscles and joints, supporting relaxation and recovery. Having all three combined means you receive the maximum therapeutic benefit in a single session.
Tecoloy™ is Health Mate's patented infrared heater, delivering 360-degree dual-wave heat with up to 40% deeper penetration than standard carbon heaters. It is the only infrared heater on the market that is UL Listed, certified non-toxic, and individually serial-numbered for quality control. In plain terms: these heaters are among the safest and most effective available in any commercial infrared sauna.
EMF stands for electromagnetic field — a form of energy emitted by electronic devices. The Health Mate Enrich 3 is equipped with low-EMF technology across all heaters, controllers, and electrical components, and has been third-party tested to verify safety standards. This means you can relax knowing your session uses industry-leading safety standards.
The Health Mate Enrich 3 is constructed from solid eucalyptus wood, chosen for superior heat retention. Eucalyptus is naturally antimicrobial and non-toxic, which is especially important in a clinical setting where the sauna is used by multiple clients daily. The wood is raw and untreated, which is why we ask clients not to bring outside essential oils — they permanently absorb into the wood and can affect future clients with sensitivities or allergies.
Chromotherapy is a color light system built into the sauna via a 96-diode near-infrared LED panel,
offering nine colors including red light therapy, adjustable at the touch of a remote. Each color is
commonly associated with different wellness intentions — for example, red light is commonly associated with cellular energy and recovery, while blue is commonly associated with calm and relaxation. During your orientation, our team will walk you through how to use the chromotherapy system and our suggested Spotify meditations to pair with each session.
We offer two standalone session lengths: a 15-minute session ($25) and a 30-minute session ($35). The
sauna is also available as an add-on to your massage appointment, and as part of our membership
program. We do not currently offer 45- or 60-minute standalone sessions.
Your first visit includes a brief orientation with one of our team members before your session begins.
We will walk you through how to operate the sauna controls and chromotherapy system, how to use the tablet for Spotify and guided meditations, proper towel placement to protect the cedar wood, where to find fresh towels and where to leave used ones, and how to locate the emergency exit and shut-off controls. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early for your first appointment — you only need to do this orientation once.
A swimsuit is required for all sauna sessions. If you forget yours, we provide complimentary robes that
must be worn for the full duration of your session. Please do not wear makeup, heavy lotions, or
aluminum-based deodorant, as these can interfere with your body's ability to sweat properly and may stain towels. Remove all jewelry and metal accessories before entering — metal heats rapidly and can cause skin burns, including rings and earrings.
Very little. Towels are provided. If you bring a water bottle, it must be metal and fully sealable — plastic bottles are strictly prohibited inside the sauna as heat can cause them to release harmful chemicals, and open cups risk damaging the wood. Do not bring any electronic devices including phones, tablets, smartwatches, or remotes — heat can cause battery failure or fire hazards.
Yes. The sauna room includes a tablet pre-loaded with Spotify, including our staff-curated meditation
and relaxation playlists. Your team member will show you how to use it during your orientation.
The sauna operates at temperatures up to 170°F. Your session will be pre-heated to 125°F and ready when you arrive.
Most people sweat significantly during an infrared session, even at lower temperatures than traditional saunas. This is normal and a sign your body is responding to the heat. This is also why hydration before and after your session is non-negotiable.
Completely. The sauna room at Deep Kneads is reserved exclusively for one person per session. No other clients or staff will enter your room during your session. Photography and video recording are
strictly prohibited in all treatment areas to protect the privacy of every guest.
Hydrate well before your session — drink water in the hours leading up to your appointment, not just
immediately before. Arrive without heavy lotion, makeup, or aluminum deodorant on your skin. Eat a
light meal at least an hour before rather than arriving immediately after a large meal. Bring or wear a
swimsuit.
Because we do not have a shower on-site, we provide cool damp towels immediately after your session to help close your pores, remove sweat, and begin the cooling-down process. Continue drinking water after your session. You may feel deeply relaxed — this is normal. Many clients pair their sauna session with a massage at Deep Kneads for a complete recovery experience.
Yes, and we recommend it. Using the sauna before your massage pre-warms your muscles, allowing
your therapist to work more effectively and reach deeper tissue with less discomfort to you. Our
massage membership members receive a sauna warm-up included as a standard perk with every
session.
You must consult your physician before using our sauna if you have any of the following: cardiovascular
conditions including heart disease, high or low blood pressure; a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator;
pregnancy (medical clearance is strictly required); recent surgery within the last 6 weeks without
surgeon clearance; a recent joint injury within the last 48 hours; conditions that affect your ability to
sweat or regulate body temperature; medications including diuretics or beta-blockers that impair
sweating; hemophilia or blood-thinning medications; a history of recent stroke or TIA; active fever, cold, flu, or contagious infection; or skin conditions such as rosacea that may be aggravated by heat. If any of these apply to you, it is your responsibility to obtain medical clearance before booking.
Metal pins, rods, and silicone prostheses may absorb infrared heat. If you have implants, you should
consult your physician before use. If cleared, you are responsible for monitoring your own comfort
during the session and exiting immediately if you feel any unusual discomfort near the implant site.
Exit the sauna immediately if you experience lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, heart pounding, or any sensation that feels abnormal. Do not push through discomfort in a sauna. Alert our staff as soon as you exit.
Out of an abundance of caution, Deep Kneads Massage discourages sauna use during the breastfeeding period without prior medical clearance from your physician or midwife. Heat exposure and the associated fluid loss from sweating can affect milk supply and maternal hydration, and individual circumstances vary significantly. We ask that breastfeeding clients consult their provider before booking and disclose their breastfeeding status on our intake form so we can best support your wellness and safety. Your health and your baby's wellbeing always come first.
No, absolutely NOT. You must be completely sober to use the sauna. Alcohol significantly impairs your
body's ability to regulate temperature and increases the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and
fainting. Clients who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or recreational substances will be
denied access.
Infrared sauna use is generally well-tolerated by healthy adults, but it is not appropriate for everyone
without medical guidance. Our intake form and liability waiver cover all known contraindications, and it is your responsibility to review these carefully and consult a physician if any apply to you. Deep Kneads staff are wellness professionals, not medical providers — our services are for wellness purposes and are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition.
Infrared sauna use is associated with muscle relaxation, relief from tension and soreness, improved
circulation, support for athletic recovery, general stress reduction, and overall wellness maintenance.
The therapeutic benefits of infrared heat have been researched for over 40 years. We intentionally focus on wellness and recovery benefits at Deep Kneads. We do not make weight loss, detox, or medical treatment claims.
A 15-minute private session is $25. A 30-minute private session is $35.
Yes. Our sauna membership provides unlimited monthly access to sauna sessions, subject to availability and pre-booking, Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Members also receive one
complimentary guest pass per month and a $10 discount on a 60-minute massage per month. The
membership requires a 3-month minimum commitment and renews automatically on the 1st of each
month.
Yes. Members may freeze their account for up to 3 months per calendar year for a $10 monthly
maintenance fee, which preserves their locked-in rate. Medical freezes supported by a physician's note may be extended an additional 3 months, for a maximum of 6 months in a two-year period.
You may cancel online through your Member Portal. A 15-day notice before the 1st of the month is
required to stop the next billing cycle. The 3-month minimum initial term is non-negotiable — if you
cancel early, billing continues until the term is fulfilled.
You are solely responsible for determining whether your HSA or FSA plan covers sauna services. A Letter of Medical Necessity from your primary care physician may be required by your plan. Deep Kneads is not liable for denied claims or financial penalties resulting from HSA/FSA use.
Yes. Each sauna membership includes one single-use guest pass per month. Guest passes do not roll
over. The member must schedule the guest session and provide the guest's full name, email, and phone number at least 48 hours in advance. Guests must sign all liability waivers before their session.
The Deep Kneads Massage office is wheelchair accessible. However, the sauna unit itself is not
wheelchair accessible.
All sauna users must be 18 years of age or older, or accompanied by a parent or guardian with written
approval from Deep Kneads management.
No. Electronics of any kind — phones, tablets, smartwatches, remotes — are strictly prohibited inside
the sauna. Heat can cause battery failure or fire. The sauna room tablet is provided for music and is
managed by staff.
No. To maintain a strictly hypoallergenic environment for all clients, outside essential oils and
aromatherapy products are prohibited. They permanently absorb into the raw cedar wood and cannot
be removed, which can trigger reactions in clients with sensitivities.
Exit immediately if you feel unwell, and notify staff. If you notice any equipment malfunction or safety
concern during your session, report it to staff right away. Do not attempt to adjust, repair, or turn off
the sauna unit — the equipment is maintained exclusively by our team.
We do not currently have showers. We provide cool damp towels after your session to help you cool
down and feel refreshed before leaving.

Targeted cryotherapy is a localized cold therapy treatment that applies a high-pressure stream of compressed CO₂ gas directly to a specific area of your body — a joint, muscle group, or injury site — for a precise, controlled period of time. Unlike an ice pack, which applies passive cold slowly and unevenly, targeted cryotherapy delivers an intense, rapid drop in tissue temperature in a matter of seconds, triggering what is known as thermal shock. Your body responds to this thermal shock immediately, initiating a cascade of natural physiological responses that reduce pain, decrease
inflammation, and support recovery.
Thermal shock is a sudden, rapid decrease in skin and tissue temperature that immediately activates the body's healing response. When the tissue temperature drops that quickly, your nervous system responds as though it needs to protect and repair that area. This triggers a vasomotor response — blood vessels in the area first constrict in response to the cold, then dilate significantly post-treatment, flooding the area with fresh blood, oxygen, and nutrients. The result is faster recovery, reduced pain signals, and decreased swelling — often felt within minutes of treatment.
An ice pack works by slowly cooling surface tissue over 15–20 minutes, rarely penetrating deeply enough to trigger a meaningful physiological response. Targeted cryotherapy using compressed CO₂ delivers cold at -108°F and reduces skin temperature to approximately 39°F in under 30 seconds — a depth and speed of cooling that a standard ice pack cannot replicate. The thermal shock response, the vasodilation rebound, and the neurochemical release that follow simply don't occur with passive ice therapy at the same level.
It means the treatment is applied precisely to one specific area — a knee, an ankle, the lower back, the neck — rather than exposing your whole body to cold. This makes it more concentrated, more efficient, and appropriate for addressing a specific problem area rather than a general systemic response.
No. Whole-body cryotherapy places your entire body in a cryo chamber at extreme temperatures for a few minutes. Targeted cryotherapy at Deep Kneads focuses the treatment on a specific joint or muscle group only, for 2–5 minutes, using a handheld device. Targeted cryotherapy provides more concentrated, intense relief for a specific problem area without exposing the whole body to cold.
Your intake documents describe the process clearly: the high-pressure CO₂ stream causes cryostimulation — constriction of blood vessels in the treated area in response to the cold, followed immediately post-treatment by dilation and significantly improved blood flow. This process reduces localized inflammation and swelling and stimulates the release of noradrenaline and beta-endorphins, which are your body's natural pain- reducing compounds. The result is both immediate pain relief and a longer-term support of your body's natural recovery process.
The AmericanCryo device delivers pressurized CO₂ gas to targeted areas of the body, producing a rapid cooling effect that triggers the body's natural healing and regeneration response. CO₂ is food-safe, non-toxic, and well-established as a cooling agent in therapeutic applications. It allows for precise, controlled delivery that can be directed exactly where it is needed without affecting surrounding tissue.
Many clients report noticeable pain reduction and a sense of relief within minutes of their session. The vasodilation rebound — the rush of fresh blood back into the treated area — begins immediately after the cold application ends. Some conditions respond after a single session; others, particularly chronic or injury-related issues, benefit from a series of treatments. Results vary based on your individual condition, health status, and how consistently you receive treatment.
Targeted cryotherapy can help with a variety of conditions including muscle strains, sprains, joint pain, tendinitis, and post-surgical recovery. Your intake documentation also notes that applications include athletic recovery, recovery from soft tissue, muscle, tendon, or overuse injuries, and clients experiencing stiffness or discomfort that limits their range of motion . As with any wellness service, results are not guaranteed and vary based on individual factors including overall health, lifestyle, and adherence to a recommended treatment plan.
Currently, targeted cryotherapy at Deep Kneads is performed exclusively by Jessica Kowallis, Licensed Massage Therapist and founder of Deep Kneads Massage. Additional therapists are in the process of completing their certification and will be added to the cryotherapy service roster as they become certified.
We offer two targeted cryotherapy service tiers:
Cryotherapy — Targeted Relief (Small/Medium) — $40 Precision cold therapy for smaller, specific areas
including TMJ, carpal tunnel, ankles, knees, and neck/whiplash. Ideal for localized joint pain, acute injury sites, and targeted relief in smaller treatment zones.
Cryotherapy — Recovery Pro (Large/XL) — $75 Broader targeted recovery for larger muscle groups and
treatment areas including hamstrings, the full back, or quads. Commonly used for athletic recovery,
injury prevention, and post-activity soreness in larger regions.
Each treatment application takes approximately 2–5 minutes per area. Your total appointment, including intake, consultation on the target area, and the treatment itself, runs approximately 10–30 minutes depending on the service tier and areas being addressed.
Yes. Targeted cryotherapy is available both as a standalone service and as an add-on to your massage session. Combining cryotherapy with massage is a particularly effective pairing — cryotherapy can be used pre-massage to reduce acute inflammation before hands-on work begins, or post-massage to address residual soreness in specific areas.
A targeted cryotherapy package specifically designed for injury recovery and ongoing treatment plans is currently being developed. Check back with our team or ask at your next visit for the most current information on package availability.
Common treatment areas at Deep Kneads include ankles, knees, shoulders, the lower back, the full back, hamstrings, quads, calves, the neck, and TMJ. If you have a specific area of concern not listed here, ask your therapist whether it is appropriate for treatment at your consultation.
Do not apply lotion, oil, or any topical product to the area being treated before your appointment — these can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment and create uneven skin contact. Wear or bring clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area. Arrive having disclosed any relevant health conditions on your intake form, and inform your therapist of any new diagnoses, medications, or health changes since your last visit.
Your therapist needs to know about any current or recent: injuries, surgeries, open wounds or lesions, skin conditions in the treatment area, sunburn or frostbite, Botox or filler treatments within the last two weeks, skin-sensitizing treatments, and any cold- related conditions or sensitivities. Your full intake form covers all contraindications — please complete it honestly. If you are unsure whether a condition applies to you, ask your therapist or consult your physician before your appointment.
Drink water after your session. You may notice the treated skin appears pink for a short period following treatment — this is normal and is a sign of the vasodilation response occurring as your tissue returns to normal temperature. This resolves on its own. Avoid applying ice or other cold immediately after your session, as the treatment has already triggered the cold response and your body now benefits from the rebound warming phase.
You must consult your physician before receiving targeted cryotherapy if you have any of the following: pregnancy; any cold- induced condition such as cold hemolysis, cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutination, or cold allergies; hyper- or hyposensitivity to cold; Raynaud's disease or impaired arterial blood flow; chronic venous insufficiency; vasculitis; diabetes-related microvascular issues; impaired lymphatic system; polyneuropathy; sensory processing disorder; deficient kidney or liver function; any blood coagulation disorder; cancer or undiagnosed lumps; or active bleeding including menstruation affecting the treatment area, burns, cuts, sprains, or dislocated joints in the target area.
No. Targeted cryotherapy should not be applied to open wounds, lesions, sunburned skin, or frostbitten skin. If you have an active skin condition or recent skin-sensitizing treatment in the proposed treatment area, disclose this before your session and your therapist will advise whether treatment is appropriate.
You should wait a minimum of two weeks after any Botox or filler procedure before receiving any cryotherapy near the treated area. Please disclose this on your intake form.
Cold applications at therapeutic levels can feel uncomfortable, particularly in the first few seconds as the thermal shock is delivered. The sensation is intense but brief. Your intake documentation notes that the skin may appear pink for a short period after the session as it returns to normal temperature, but no damage occurs and no recovery downtime is required. If at any point you experience a burning sensation, significant pain, or unusual discomfort during your session, inform your therapist immediately and the treatment will be stopped.
Alert your therapist immediately if you experience burning, significant pain, numbness that feels abnormal, or any sensation outside of the expected cold discomfort. You have the right to stop your session at any time and your therapist will always prioritize your comfort and safety over completing the treatment.
The most common and expected response is temporary skin redness (erythema) in the treated area as blood flow returns to normal. This resolves quickly. In rare cases, minor skin sensitivity may occur. Your intake documentation notes that rare reactions, including minor frostbite with possible lasting sensitivity, have been disclosed as a known risk. Your therapist is trained to monitor treatment closely to prevent overcooling.
No. Targeted cryotherapy services at Deep Kneads are wellness services intended for generally healthy individuals. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Results are not guaranteed. If you have a specific medical condition, injury, or post-surgical concern, consult your physician before receiving treatment and obtain written clearance if recommended.
Standard Deep Kneads cancellation policies apply to cryotherapy appointments. Please review your booking confirmation for specific notice requirements.
Please reschedule. Do not come in if you have a fever, congestion, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, nausea, rash, or any acute infection. Your health and the health of our staff and other clients come first. Standard cancellation and package expiration policies still apply.
Yes. All cryotherapy clients are required to complete a Cryotherapy Intake Form and sign the Cryotherapy Service Terms and Conditions before their first session. This covers your health history, contraindications, and acknowledgment of the inherent risks of cold therapy. It is your responsibility to disclose all relevant health information truthfully and completely — treatment safety depends on it.
You are solely responsible for determining whether your HSA or FSA plan covers cryotherapy wellness services. A Letter of Medical Necessity from your primary care physician may be required. Deep Kneads is not liable for denied claims or financial penalties resulting from HSA or FSA use toward cryotherapy services.
